Exercises to Encourage Creativity

There are many different ways to encourage creativity. Many people don’t realize that exercise can encourage creativity. There are many great exercises that will help you get in your creative frame of mind. Before you can begin to understand this, you need to understand the definition of creativity.

Creativity is a complex term that doesn’t quite do justice to the grandness of what creativity really is. Creativity has a lot to do with original and flexible thinking. Highly creative people tend to have a motivation to overcome obstacles in their lives or to find new and better ways of doing things.

There are many benefits to creativity. It can make you more motivated and productive as a person. It can help children and young adults become more successful in their adult lives. It can help you make a personal goal or dream a reality. Creativity can also help with boredom, stress and other psychological conditions.

Exercise has been proven to help with creativity. If you are in a slump or need a boost, even just getting some physical activity throughout the day will help. Fresh air and getting your blood pumping is a great way to boost your creativity. Here are some other activities and exercises that can be performed to help encourage creativity.

Image streaming is an exercise that can be done individually or in pairs so it’s great for a multiple activity. In this exercise, you ask yourself a question. Then you will describe your mental visual imagery either out loud to someone else or to a tape recorder if you’re doing the exercise alone. Describing the images should come in a streaming manner which is why it is referred to as image streaming. Your goal would be to make the listener vividly aware of what you see. You want to describe it in such a sense that they can feel like they are there as well. This exercise can be done on a regular basis and over time will help improve creativity and boost intelligence.

Consider music- in this exercise, you will play a piece of music you don’t know or have someone play it for you. Now dim the lights and listen closely to the music. Focus on it for a bit and let the music tell you a story. What story is it telling you? Can you see this story in your mind? Can you draw this story out on paper? What is the music telling you? Now stop the music and write down everything the music is telling and showing you.

The next exercise is to challenge traditional thinking. This can be a great way to boost your creative thinking. You can do this by forcing your mind to take alternate routes. Give yourself a scenario and then look at the most obvious approach to resolve the problem. Now allow yourself the freedom to think of other ways to resolve it. Do this as many times as you want with as many situations as you can think of and you will see your creativity expand.
